Granite is what you choose when the surface has to work. Here is what actually holds up in a Pakistani kitchen, on a monsoon staircase, and under a Lahore summer.

what it does, not how it looks.
Nobody walks into a stone gallery hoping to fall in love with granite. They come to it having worked out that the surface in question has a job to do — a kitchen counter that will meet hot pans and turmeric, a driveway that will carry a car through monsoon rain, a staircase in a building where two hundred people a day use it. Granite is the answer to a practical question, and it should be chosen practically.
What makes it the answer is structure. Granite is an igneous rock: crystals of quartz and feldspar locked together under pressure, with almost no calcite. That single fact is why it shrugs off the acids that ruin marble. Lemon, vinegar, tamarind, the tomato base of a karahi — none of them etch it. It is dense enough to resist Lahore's hard water far better than any marble, and hard enough that ordinary kitchen grit does not dull it.
It is also the only stone on our racks we will confidently put outdoors in this city. A flamed granite driveway grips in rain when a polished surface would be lethal. A granite boundary wall holds its colour through a decade of June sun where softer stones fade and chalk. On facades and plinths exposed to both monsoon damp and 45°C afternoons, it simply does not care.

01Black Pakistani
Best Kitchen CounterIf you want one recommendation for a Lahore kitchen and no debate about it, this is the stone. Deep, even black with a tight crystal structure that takes a hard polish and holds it. It is genuinely indifferent to everything a Pakistani kitchen does to a surface — acid, heat, oil, constant wiping with harsh cleaner — and being locally quarried it costs a fraction of the imported blacks it sits alongside on our racks. We have cut more of it into counters than any other granite.

02Indus Gold
Best for ExteriorsWarm gold and grey, and the granite we reach for whenever the stone is going outside. Flamed rather than polished, its surface is torched open into a fine grip that holds underfoot in monsoon rain — the difference between a driveway ramp you can walk on in August and one you cannot. It holds colour through years of direct sun without fading, and on boundary walls and plinths it ages into something better than it started.

03Black Galaxy
Best Statement CounterBlack ground scattered with bronze mica that catches light as you move past it — the granite people photograph. Functionally it does everything Black Pakistani does; you are paying for the flecking, and on an island or a reception desk where the surface is genuinely on display, it earns the difference. On a run of back counters hidden under wall units, it does not, and we will say so.

Best Commercial FloorA warm speckled pink-grey that has floored more Pakistani institutional buildings than almost any other stone, and for good reason. It hides everything — dust, scuffing, the general wear of heavy public traffic — while staying bright enough to keep a corridor from feeling closed in. Available in large lots at consistent colour, which is what actually matters when you are covering ten thousand square feet.

05Baltic Brown
Best for Bathrooms & VanitiesDeep brown with dark crystal rounds, and a stone that solves a specific Lahore problem: bathroom surfaces where hard water leaves visible marks on anything pale. Baltic Brown simply does not show them. Dense, low-porosity, and warm enough to work with the wood tones most local bathrooms use. Also excellent for stair treads where a darker surface disguises the traffic line that forms up the centre.

Best Character StoneDeep green with black and white crystal — the most distinctive granite Pakistan produces, and the one clients either want immediately or not at all. Quarry output is limited and lots vary, so it belongs on features rather than large floors: a reception face, a fireplace surround, a column cladding. Buy the whole quantity in one lot, because matching it later is not realistic.

The finish decides
more than the stone.
Two identical granites can behave completely differently depending on how the surface is finished, and this is the part of the decision most buyers never get asked about. It matters enormously in Lahore, where the same building might need three different finishes on the same stone.
A polished finish is a mirror. It shows the crystal at its best, cleans easily, and is the right answer for kitchen counters and interior floors — but it becomes genuinely dangerous when wet, which rules it out for exterior steps, ramps and pool surrounds in a monsoon city. A honed finish is ground flat but stopped short of the mirror: matt, softer-looking, considerably more slip-resistant, and much better at hiding the fine scratching that traffic eventually brings.
A flamed finish is the one people have not usually heard of and often need. The surface is passed under a high-temperature torch that pops the top crystal layer open, leaving a rough, grippy texture. It is what makes a granite driveway safe in rain and a stair nosing safe underfoot. We flame in-house at RUDA, which means we can flame the tread and polish the riser of the same step from the same slab — a detail that reads as quality and costs almost nothing to specify.
For stairs specifically, ask about anti-slip grooving. Two or three shallow grooves cut across the nose of each tread take minutes on the CNC and transform a staircase that a grandparent can use safely in July from one that they cannot.

Why we cut it

Most granite sold in Lahore has passed through at least two hands before it reaches the customer — a trader who bought the block, a fabricator who cut it, a shop that sold it. Every hand adds a margin, and more importantly every hand adds a place for accountability to disappear when something is wrong.
We buy granite blocks directly, at the quarry face in Balochistan and Gilgit-Baltistan for our Pakistani stones and at origin for the imports, and we cut them on our own gang saws at RUDA. Sixty-six thousand square feet of production floor, Italian CNC lines working to a millimetre, and an eight-stage polishing line that finishes the surface properly rather than stopping at whatever gloss the buyer will accept.
That matters for granite more than for any other stone, because granite is hard and unforgiving to machine. A cheap cut leaves chipped edges that no polish hides. A rushed polish leaves a surface that looks right in the yard and dulls within a year. A mitred corner on a counter is either perfect or obviously wrong, and it is decided by the calibration of the machine and the patience of the operator, not by the quality of the block.
When you buy from us you are buying one margin and one accountable name. If something is wrong with a Saqib Brothers granite counter, there is nobody for us to blame and nobody for you to chase — which is precisely why we are careful.

We deliberately do not publish a fixed rate per stone. Any exact figure printed on a website is out of date within months — the currency moves, quarry output changes, and a number that was honest in spring quietly misleads by autumn. Ranges are the truthful form: they show you where our rates actually sit without claiming a precision that does not survive contact with the market. These bands shift too, which is why the only figure that binds either of us is the one written on your quotation.

Why the ranges are wide — the same stone prices very differently by format and grade. Cut-to-size flooring, full slabs, stair treads, vanity tops and full gangsaw pieces are effectively four different products from one block. Grade within a stone varies as much again.

Which granite is best for a kitchen in Pakistan?
Black Pakistani granite, polished. It is dense, locally quarried so sensibly priced, and completely unaffected by the acids in a Pakistani kitchen — turmeric, lemon, tamarind and tomato all wipe off without marking. Black Galaxy performs the same and costs more for the gold flecking, which is worth it on an island and not worth it on hidden counters.
Is granite better than marble for Lahore?
For anything that works — kitchen counters, stairs, driveways, exteriors — yes, clearly. Granite has almost no calcite, so acids do not etch it, and it resists our hard water far better. For lounges, bedrooms and formal interiors where you want light and elegance rather than toughness, marble is the better-looking choice and durability is not the deciding factor.
What is a flamed finish and do I need one?
Flaming passes a high-temperature torch over the surface to pop the top crystal layer open, leaving a rough, grippy texture. You need it anywhere stone gets wet and walked on — driveways, ramps, exterior steps, pool surrounds. In a monsoon city, polished granite outdoors is genuinely unsafe.
How much does granite cost in Lahore?
Indicative bands for local granite are published above. Imported granites such as Black Galaxy and Baltic Brown sit higher. The exact figure depends on finish, thickness and format, and is confirmed in writing against your measurements.
Does granite need sealing?
Far less than marble, and some dense blacks effectively never need it. We seal counters on installation as a precaution against oil staining and recommend re-sealing every two to three years in a working kitchen. Exterior granite generally needs nothing beyond washing.
Can granite be used for stairs safely?
Yes, and it is one of the best materials for them — provided the finish is right. Use honed or flamed rather than polished on the treads, and have anti-slip grooves cut across the nosing at the factory. We cut those on the CNC before delivery, which costs very little and makes a real difference in monsoon season.
Do you supply granite for commercial projects?
Yes — banks, hotels, universities, hospitals and government institutions across Pakistan. For large floors we reserve a single quarry lot so colour stays consistent across the whole area, and phase deliveries to the site programme. Where can I see granite slabs in Lahore?
At our Harbanspura gallery on Main Canal Road, Rehman Pura, where full slabs stand upright on racks rather than being shown as small samples. Granite crystal reads completely differently at full size. Mon to Sat, 08:00 to 19:00.
Why don’t you publish exact prices?
Because a fixed figure on a website is misleading within months — currency, freight and quarry output all move, and a rate that was accurate when it was typed quietly becomes a false promise. Ranges are the honest version: wide enough to stay true, narrow enough to be useful. Even these bands change with market conditions, so the figure that counts is the one we put in writing against your measurements.
